Important: A water-permeable joint will only be long-lasting if the base layer underneath is also sufficiently permeable or well-drained. Always ensure a slope of at least 2% so excess water can flow away easily.
How do I know if my base layer is sufficiently water-permeable?
Let's get started!
Preparation
Make sure the paving to be jointed is completely dry, and allow for a rain-free period of at least 1 hour after application. The ambient and ground temperature should be between 1°C and 30°C.
Start with a stable, water-permeable base that can withstand the expected traffic load. Ensure the joints are at least 30 mm deep (or 20 mm for 2 cm thick tiles), have a width between 1 and 40 mm, and are clean and free of debris.
Important: Always test on a small area first!
Application
Open the bag and spread the product evenly across the entire surface. For areas larger than 20 m², it is recommended to work in sections to ensure an even distribution. Gently sweep the jointing material into the joints using a squeegee or broom. Then compact the paving using a vibrating plate or tamp the joints with a rubber mallet. If vibration is not possible, firmly press the material into the joints using a joint roller or soft broom.
Work diagonally across the surface to carefully remove excess material, so that the jointing compound sits approximately 1 mm below the top of the paving. Finally, blow away any remaining dust or sand with a leaf blower for the best result.
Spray the surface with water until the joints are fully saturated and water starts to pool. Then wait for 2 to a maximum of 4 minutes. Rinse the surface thoroughly and use a squeegee to remove excess water. Stop rinsing as soon as the joints are saturated to prevent wash-out. For optimal results, remove the remaining water with a leaf blower.
Points of Attention
For an even colour tone, it is essential to apply the product uniformly across the entire surface.
AquaJoint FlexDry is a natural product, so slight colour variations may occur. For a consistent result, use bags from the same pallet.
Curing
The surface is walkable after just 1 hour, allowing the paving to be put back into use quickly. The joint reaches full curing and maximum load-bearing capacity within a few days, depending on weather conditions.
Maintenance
Due to its water-permeable structure, the material is slightly porous, which may lead to moss or green deposits forming during winter. These can be easily removed in spring using a scrubbing brush and a suitable outdoor cleaning product, preferably chlorine-free.
If using a pressure washer, never direct the jet straight onto the joints. This can damage the top layer and unnecessarily deepen the joint.
Storage & Shelf Life
The jointing compound is supplied dry in 20 kg bags and has an unlimited shelf life when stored in a dry, frost-free environment.
Leftover product can be saved by putting it back into the bag and storing it in a dry place.
Safety Instructions
Keep this product out of reach of children. Always wear protective gloves and appropriate clothing during use. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and consult a doctor. This product may cause skin irritation, so handle with care.

FAQ
How do I know if my base layer is sufficiently water-permeable?
The water permeability of your base largely depends on the soil type. On sandy soil, rainwater infiltrates easily. On clay or loamy soil, that’s not the case, and you’ll always need to provide additional drainage — for example with drainage pipes or a drainage mat. Without proper water evacuation, moisture can accumulate beneath the paving, leading to issues such as efflorescence or even cracks caused by frost.
Also pay attention to the composition of the base layer: if the cement content is too high, it becomes impermeable, which can worsen moisture problems. For patios, a ratio of around 80 kg of cement per m³ is sufficient, and for driveways 150 kg per m³. Using more is unnecessary and even counterproductive.
A better alternative is a fully water-permeable substructure made of washed crushed natural stone (such as porphyry) with a grain size of 2/6 mm, optionally finished with a fine top layer of 1/3 mm, as long as the proportion of fine particles remains limited.
Even when using water-permeable jointing products, a proper slope (at least 2%) and drainage remain essential for a well-functioning system. In case of doubt, a soil test or advice from a professional is recommended.
How long should I wait before I can walk or drive on my patio or driveway?
This depends on temperature and humidity, but as a general guideline:
- All Weather Easy: walkable after 18 to 24 hours, fully cured after 7 days at 20°C and 65% humidity.
- FlexDry: walkable after just 1 hour, fully cured after 2 to 3 days at 20°C and 65% humidity.
A white haze has appeared after using FlexDry. What now?
In most cases, this means the paving wasn’t dry enough — not just on the surface, but also inside the stone. To prevent this, we recommend thoroughly rinsing the paving shortly after activating the joints.
If a white haze still appears, it will naturally fade over the course of about six months.
Can I drive over it with my jeep or van?
Yes, you can – provided you’ve used FlexDry or the DRIVE version of All Weather Easy. Both are specifically designed for driveways and occasional traffic loads of up to 3,500 kg total weight.
